What is the exact title of your role, how long have you been with the SPK, and what are your responsibilities?

Beckmann: I am the Online Communications Coordinator and have been working at the Stabi since December 2022. In my role, I handle all aspects of the Stabi’s digital communications: from social media management, supporting the website relaunch, to the strategic direction of corporate communications, particularly in the digital sphere. My work brings the topics and interests of the research departments out into the world and connects the Stabi with users, visitors, interested parties and partner institutions. When I’m not updating my editorial calendar or creating content, I advise our staff on their communication needs and help them tell their stories. For the website relaunch, I’m helping to draw up editorial guidelines and am furthering my knowledge of search engine optimisation on behalf of the Stabi.

What is your favourite place in the SPK, why, and what do you most enjoy doing there?

My favourite spot in the SPK is in the Stabi, right under the roof of the Unter den Linden building. In this storeroom, we keep bound volumes of various journals and selected specialist literature: from the first car, through trade journals covering almost every aspect of the trades, film and theatre studies, to historical cookery and confectionery books.

Browsing here always brings new ideas, and on every visit I discover something I hadn’t noticed before. If I peek carefully through the curtains in front of the windows, I can watch the hustle and bustle in the Brunnenhof and in front of the Stabi’s main entrance. When I need a creative spark or some analogue inspiration, I like to come here and leaf through the various works.

Communication is constantly changing, especially in the digital sphere: new communication channels are constantly emerging, new trends are taking shape, and new tools are waiting to be tried out. This also offers ever-changing opportunities to present objects and their stories and bring them to life digitally.
