How long have you been working at the SPK, and what are your responsibilities?
I have been working at the SPK’s head office since March 2020, initially starting as a member of the mailroom and reception team. In 2021, I moved on to my current role as a clerk, where I am mainly responsible for processing staff and service ID cards – for all SPK employees. This means I issue new ID cards, renew expired ones and collect them when staff leave the service. I am also responsible for materials management, ordering work materials and equipment for the offices at headquarters. In addition, I manage the large conference room in the Villa von der Heydt and handle the many booking requests for it. This means I clarify the details of exactly what is required, such as equipment, seating and drinks orders, and arrange the room accordingly. These are my core tasks.
At the same time, however, there are many smaller tasks to deal with, such as processing applications for housing assistance, through which federal employees can apply for a flat via the federal property portal. Organising the distribution of water crates on particularly hot days also falls within my remit – as do maintaining book lists, managing magazine subscriptions, distributing obituaries across the foundation, and conducting needs assessments for the federal department’s shop.
What is your favourite place at the SPK and what do you most enjoy doing there?
For me, it’s the foyer of Villa von der Heydt, the President’s official residence. When I first stepped inside, I had a real ‘wow’ moment. It’s not just the size of the room or the marble that impresses me, but also the art on display – especially the reproduction of Schadow’s ‘Princess Group’. I also love the fact that you often bump into colleagues there who are just on their way from A to B or coming out of the meeting room – it’s the perfect spot for a quick chat. It’s particularly nice when you’d otherwise only be in touch by phone or email. Here, you have the chance to get to know each other in person.
