Hidden Gems today with Maximilian Schulz, caretaker at theSecret State Archives of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation
How long have you been working at the SPK, and what are your responsibilities?
Maximilian Schulz: I have been working as a caretaker at the State Secret Archives since March 2016. My responsibilities include coordinating the work of the in-house tradespeople and their scheduling, liaising with external contractors, and the general maintenance of the State Secret Archives’ properties in Dahlem and Westhafen.
In the buildings, I am also responsible for the electrical systems, the inspection of portable electrical equipment and the control technology. Furthermore, I am responsible for setting up and dismantling events, and often also for providing technical support during them.
What is your favourite place at the SPK and what do you most enjoy doing there?
As one of the few institutions within the SPK, the PK State Archives still has staff accommodation on its premises. Right next to the main building is a small semi-detached house for civil servants.
On the small plot of land belonging to it, I have built myself a small terrace and an outdoor sofa under a cherry tree. It’s a lovely spot to unwind after a full day’s work.
Although it is part of the Secret State Archives’ grounds, this area is not open to the public and can only be used by the respective tenants of the semi-detached house.
