Provenance research focuses on questions regarding the origin of objects. Where do they come from? What path have they taken? And are they there lawfully? In order to thoroughly clarify these questions, provenance research is a key focus of the SPK’s work.
200 Years of Museum Island BerlinCelebrating a Global Icon
Berlin’s Museum Island is an icon and a global sensation. Its success story began exactly 200 years ago with the construction of the Altes Museum. To mark this anniversary, this unique museum quarter will be celebrated over the course of five years – with exhibitions, events, open-air presentations, concerts and activities for everyone
SPK – The Reform
This is arguably the largest renovation and refurbishment project in the SPK’s history: the SPK has been undergoing reform since 2022. Structures are being streamlined so that the foundation can successfully realise its vision: “We connect people, times and spaces”

The SPK's museums, libraries, archives and research institutes are a unique store of knowledge and the starting point for many research adventures.
